Dale Compton

Born and raised in Mankato, MN I have always been drawn to art. As a high school student I spent my summers working in a custom framing gallery. This was my firsrt true exposure to a wide variety of art. I received my B.S. degree in Art Education from Minnesota State University, Mankato and have been teaching high school art for the past 20 years.

As an avid outdoor enthusiast, I always have my camera with me. I look to find interesting photos wherever I travel. It is in my photos and scenes from nature that inspire my sculptures. From the geometric forms to the abstractions of the natural environment, I look to bring those into my artwork.

What The Future Holds - 2022

In this piece we see a girl contemplating her future. As much as people may want to change the past, they are unable to do so. In the same way we do not know what the future holds. We can try looking into the crystal ball to see what will happen but in reality it is just twists and turns leading us down an unknown path. So as this girl tries to look into the ball to see what the future holds, she should just enjoy the moment and leave the future up to wherever life leads her.

Beyond the Reflection - 2021

“In this piece, I show how we are often stuck in our own little world. The cage-like structure shows the fragility of our world. We often can’t see beyond what we know, feeling like we are looking at a reflection of what we see every day. But if we look deeper, we can see through those mirrors and view a whole new world.”
